Quixotic Fusion

Dance Company

promotional material / photography

Interning at the Quixotic studio, surrounded by

dancers practicing and occasional live music

outbreaks was outrageously dreamy for me. Still

pinching myself. The first poster was a collabor-

ative effort. My contribution was the expressive

type arrangement as well as the integration of the

theme affirming text, "take flight." I structured the

practical business contact information with function

in mind—securely clamped to a hidden vertical

axis. For the eblast design, the goal was pathos—

to invite the viewer to experience aerial acrobatics,

all in a quick glance. I tried to tap into vertigo with

the severely angled type.

Dance initiated intoxication struck the crowd, last Friday at the Granada. Those who are new to the Quixotic experience may be easily identified by the occasional gasping and gaping mouths. Additionally, this performance equated a pilotes session for my photo skills—not just because this particular venue does not believe in the necessity of air conditioning. My process includes clenching the camera to my body as tightly as possible. I do not breathe until I have released the shutter. (The luxury of breathing freely in combination with a slow shutter setting and fast moving objects means a missed shot and a purposeless existence.)
